Ahsoka After making her long-awaited, live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano’s story, written by Dave Filoni, will continue in a limited series, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson and executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Rangers of the New Republic Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, Rangers of the New Republic is a new live-action series from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni that will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event. Andor Andor, a tense nail-biting spy thriller created by Tony Gilroy, is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2022. Diego Luna, reprising the role of rebel spy Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be joined by a fantastic new cast that includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. Obi-Wan Kenobi Ewan McGregor returns in the iconic role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a special event series on Disney+. Officially titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The Bad Batch The Bad Batch follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch—a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army—each possess a singular exceptional skill that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose. This animated series will arrive exclusively on Disney+. Star Wars: Visions Presenting all-new, creative takes on the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Visions will be a series of animated short films celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators. A Droid Story As Lucasfilm continues to develop new stories, the intersection of animation and visual effects offers new opportunities to explore. Lucasfilm Animation is teaming up with Lucasfilm’s visual effects team, Industrial Light & Magic, to develop a special Star Wars adventure film for Disney+, A Droid Story. This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero, guided by legendary duo R2-D2 and C-3PO. Willow Willow, set decades after Ron Howard’s 1988 movie, continues the spirit of adventure, heroics and humor of the original film in this new series debuting on Disney+ in 2022. Warwick Davis will return in the role of the great sorcerer, Willow Ufgood, with Jon Chu (director of the groundbreaking Crazy Rich Asians) directing the pilot.

The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland with Malcolm Spellman serving as head writer, the six-episode series also stars Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker. Loki Loki is set to debut on Disney+ in May 2021 featuring the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Secret Invasion Secret Invasion is a newly announced series heading to Disney+ that stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos—characters who first met in Captain Marvel. The crossover comic event series showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years. Ironheart Ironheart, the second of the newly announced series coming to Disney+, stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Armor Wars Armor Wars, based on the classic Marvel comic series, comes to Disney+ starring Don Cheadle as James Rhodes aka War Machine who must face what happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands. Inside Pixar Inside Pixar is a new documentary series that invites Pixar fans into the studio for an up-close, never-before- seen look at the artistry, craftsmanship and storytellers behind beloved films. The first five episodes are currently available on Disney+ with more scheduled to release soon. Soul Soul, available exclusively on Disney+ beginning December 25, 2020, explores themes like appreciating the simple joys of life and finding one’s unique spark. Directed by Docter, the film introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx), a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions. Soul is co-directed by Kemp Powers (One Night in Miami) and produced by Academy Award nominee Dana Murray, p.g.a. (Pixar short Lou). Burrow Burrow is part of Pixar’s collection of shorts called SparkShorts that are created by a diverse group of storytellers. Debuting exclusively on Disney+ on December 25, 2020, Burrow features a young rabbit who embarks on a journey to dig the burrow of her dreams, despite not having a clue what she’s doing. Rather than reveal to her neighbors her imperfections, she digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble. After hitting (bed)rock bottom, she learns there is no shame in asking for help. The new short is directed by Madeline Sharafian and produced by Mike Capbarat. Pixar Popcorn Pixar Popcorn, coming to Disney+ in January 2021, is a collection of mini shorts featuring Pixar characters in all-new, bite-size stories created by Pixar’s talented animators. Dug Days Dug Days, which premieres exclusively on Disney+ in Fall 2021, is a new collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from Disney and Pixar’s Up. Each short features everyday events that occur in and around Dug’s backyard, all through the exciting (and delightfully distorted) eyes of our favorite talking dog. The shorts are written and directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins. Cars Cars, coming to Disney+ in Fall 2022, is an all-new series that follows Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater on a cross-country road trip. These episodes are filled with lots of fun new characters, imaginative destinations as well as old friends checking in along the way. The series is written by Steve Purcell and produced by Marc Sondheimer. Win or Lose Win or Lose, Pixar’s first-ever original long-form animated series, debuts on Disney+ in 2023. It follows a coed middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game. Each 20-minute episode highlights the perspective of a different character and explores the drama of bad calls made on and off the field. Written and directed by story artists Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, and produced by David Lally, Win or Lose is a comedy about love, rivalry and the challenges we all face in our struggle to win at life.

Three Men and a Baby Three Men and a Baby, a modern take on the hilarious ’80s comedy, will star Zac Efron and is slated for a 2022 release on Disney+. Safety Safety, premiering tomorrow, December 11, on Disney+, is a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McELrathBey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Marshall director Reginald Hudlin helms the uplifting drama. The Keanon Lowe project The Keanon Lowe project, coming to Disney+, is inspired by the incredible real-life story of a high school coach who averted tragedy through compassion. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are on board as producers for the project through their Seven Bucks Productions. Greek Freak Greek Freak heads into production next year for Disney+. It is the remarkable story of NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family, who lifted themselves out of poverty as undocumented immigrants living in Greece. Ultimately, Giannis finds himself on the world stage. The Chris Paul Project The Chris Paul project is a biographical film in development for Disney+ about NBA superstar Chris Paul. It follows Paul’s deeply moving story of family, legacy and destiny that helped make him who he is today. Flora & Ulysses Flora & Ulysses is a delightful comedy-adventure based on the Newbery Award–winning book about 10-year-old Flora, an avid comic book fan and a self-avowed cynic, who rescues a squirrel with unique superhero powers. Flora & Ulysses stars Matilda Lawler and is directed by Lena Khan (The Tiger Hunter). The film makes its debut on Disney+ February 19, 2021. Cheaper by the Dozen Cheaper by the Dozen, a reimagining of the hit comedy with Black-ish producer Kenya Barris, will air on Disney+ in 2022. The story centers on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business. Gabrielle Union is set to star. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which has spawned a successful live-action film franchise from the popular books, comes to Disney+ in 2021 as an all-new animated film. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, exclusively for Disney+, is a spin-off of the popular Ice Age franchise from 20th Century Studios. The story centers on three series favorites: the prankster possum brothers Crash and Eddie, and the swashbuckling titular weasel, Buck. Simon Pegg will be returning in the role of Buck. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is slated for an early 2022 release. Night at the Museum Night at the Museum comes to Disney+ with a new twist: this time it’s animated. Shawn Levy, who has helped shape the blockbuster franchise as director of the previous films, and is also helming 20th Century Studios’ upcoming Free Guy, is on board as a producer. Night at the Museum launches on Disney+ in 2021. Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, a hybrid live-action-animated feature for Disney+, is in development. Akiva Schaffer (Popstar) directs, and John Mulaney and Andy Samberg are set to star in the title roles with Seth Rogen doing a cameo. Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers is slated for spring 2022. Pinocchio Pinocchio is coming to Disney+ in a compelling new live-action retelling that will leverage state-of-the art CGI to bring Pinocchio to life. A living puppet, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy in a musical remake of the Disney animated classic. Robert Zemeckis directs and Tom Hanks stars. Peter Pan & Wendy Peter Pan & Wendy, inspired by the Disney animated classic, has David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon) at the helm. A young girl rebels against “growing up” by going with her two brothers to a magical land ruled by an ageless boy obsessed with adventure who is locked in an ongoing battle with a pirate captain. The cast includes Jude Law as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) in the role of Tinker Bell. The film will premiere on Disney+. Disenchanted Disenchanted, a sequel to the hit film Enchanted, will stream exclusively on Disney+. Amy Adams returns as Giselle, who found her life flipped upside down when she fell out of her animated fantasy world and discovered herself stuck in real-life Manhattan. Sister Act 3 Sister Act 3, the third film in the beloved Sister Act series, is in development. Whoopi Goldberg is on board to star and produce, with Tyler Perry also signed on as a producer on the project. Sister Act 3 will premiere on Disney+.

Raya and the Last Dragon Raya and the Last Dragon, which will be released on March 5, 2021, simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access, travels to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well. Raya and the Last Dragon features the voices of Kelly Marie Tran as Raya, a warrior whose wit is as sharp as her blade, and Awkwafina as magical, mythical, self-deprecating dragon named Sisu. Newly revealed characters from the film include a street-savvy 10-year-old entrepreneur named Boun, the formidable giant Tong, and a thieving toddler Noi with her band of Ongis. The feature film is directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada and produced by Osnat Shurer and Peter Del Vecho. Baymax Baymax, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first-ever animated series, takes place in the fantastical city of San Fransokyo and features fan favorite healthcare bot, Baymax. Created by Don Hall, the Oscar-winning director of Big Hero 6, Baymax premieres on Disney+ in early 2022. Zootopia+ Zootopia+ heads back to the fast-paced mammal metropolis of Zootopia in a short-form series directed by Trent Correy and Josie Trinidad. Zootopia+ dives deeper into the lives of some of the feature film’s most intriguing characters, including Fru Fru, the newly married arctic shrew; Gazelle’s talented tiger dancers; and the sloth full of surprises, Flash. The short-form series debuts on Disney+ in Spring 2022. Iwájú Iwájú is an all-new original series coming to Disney+ in 2022. The series is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali and its founders Tolu Olowofoyeku, Ziki Nelson and Hamid Ibrahim. Iwájú, which roughly translates to “The Future” in the Yoruba language, is steeped in science fiction. The long-form series is set in Lagos, Nigeria, exploring deep themes of class, innocence and challenging the status quo. Says director Ziki Nelson, “This show will combine Disney’s magic and animation expertise with Kugali’s fire and storytelling authenticity. Iwájú represents a personal childhood dream of mine to tell my story and that of my people.” Tiana Tiana, coming to Disney+ in 2023, is a long-form musical-comedy series featuring the extraordinary entrepreneur who’s now princess of the kingdom Maldonia. The all-new adventures explore both Maldonia and Tiana’s beloved hometown, New Orleans. Tiana is the first princess to have her own Walt Disney Animation Studios series. Moana, The Series Moana, The Series, coming to Disney+ in 2023, is a new long-form musical series that follows spirited voyager Moana as she ventures far beyond the reef. The studio is once again connecting with storytellers from the Pacific Islands to help tell the stories of wayfinding and other traditions brought to life for generations through oral storytelling.

Soul Soul, available exclusively on Disney+ beginning December 25, 2020, explores themes like appreciating the simple joys of life and finding one’s unique spark. Directed by Docter, the film introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx), a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions. Burrow Burrow is part of Pixar’s collection of shorts called SparkShorts that are created by a diverse group of storytellers. Debuting exclusively on Disney+ on December 25, 2020, Burrow features a young rabbit who embarks on a journey to dig the burrow of her dreams, despite not having a clue what she’s doing. Rather than reveal to her neighbors her imperfections, she digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble. After hitting (bed)rock bottom, she learns there is no shame in asking for help. The new short is directed by Madeline Sharafian and produced by Mike Capbarat. Pixar Popcorn Pixar Popcorn, coming to Disney+ in January 2021, is a collection of mini shorts featuring Pixar characters in all-new, bite-size stories created by Pixar’s talented animators. Dug Days Dug Days, which premieres exclusively on Disney+ in Fall 2021, is a new collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from Disney and Pixar’s Up. Each short features everyday events that occur in and around Dug’s backyard, all through the exciting (and delightfully distorted) eyes of our favorite talking dog. The shorts are written and directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins. Cars Cars, coming to Disney+ in Fall 2022, is an all-new series that follows Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater on a cross-country road trip. These episodes are filled with lots of fun new characters, imaginative destinations as well as old friends checking in along the way. The series is written by Steve Purcell and produced by Marc Sondheimer. Win or Lose Win or Lose, Pixar’s first-ever original long-form animated series, debuts on Disney+ in 2023. It follows a coed middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game. Each 20-minute episode highlights the perspective of a different character and explores the drama of bad calls made on and off the field. Safety Safety, premiering tomorrow, December 11, on Disney+, is a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McELrathBey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Marshall director Reginald Hudlin helms the uplifting drama. The Keanon Lowe project The Keanon Lowe project, coming to Disney+, is inspired by the incredible real-life story of a high school coach who averted tragedy through compassion. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are on board as producers for the project through their Seven Bucks Productions. Greek Freak Greek Freak heads into production next year for Disney+. It is the remarkable story of NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family, who lifted themselves out of poverty as undocumented immigrants living in Greece. Ultimately, Giannis finds himself on the world stage. The Chris Paul Project The Chris Paul project is a biographical film in development for Disney+ about NBA superstar Chris Paul. It follows Paul’s deeply moving story of family, legacy and destiny that helped make him who he is today. Flora & Ulysses Flora & Ulysses is a delightful comedy-adventure based on the Newbery Award–winning book about 10-year-old Flora, an avid comic book fan and a self-avowed cynic, who rescues a squirrel with unique superhero powers. Flora & Ulysses stars Matilda Lawler and is directed by Lena Khan (The Tiger Hunter). The film makes its debut on Disney+ February 19, 2021. Cheaper by the Dozen Cheaper by the Dozen, a reimagining of the hit comedy with Black-ish producer Kenya Barris, will air on Disney+ in 2022. The story centers on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business. Gabrielle Union is set to star. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which has spawned a successful live-action film franchise from the popular books, comes to Disney+ in 2021 as an all-new animated film. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, exclusively for Disney+, is a spin-off of the popular Ice Age franchise from 20th Century Studios. The story centers on three series favorites: the prankster possum brothers Crash and Eddie, and the swashbuckling titular weasel, Buck. Simon Pegg will be returning in the role of Buck. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is slated for an early 2022 release. Night at the Museum Night at the Museum comes to Disney+ with a new twist: this time it’s animated. Shawn Levy, who has helped shape the blockbuster franchise as director of the previous films, and is also helming 20th Century Studios’ upcoming Free Guy, is on board as a producer. Night at the Museum launches on Disney+ in 2021. Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, a hybrid live-action-animated feature for Disney+, is in development. Akiva Schaffer (Popstar) directs, and John Mulaney and Andy Samberg are set to star in the title roles with Seth Rogen doing a cameo. Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers is slated for spring 2022. Pinocchio Pinocchio is coming to Disney+ in a compelling new live-action retelling that will leverage state-of-the art CGI to bring Pinocchio to life. A living puppet, with the help of a cricket as his conscience, must prove himself worthy to become a real boy in a musical remake of the Disney animated classic. Robert Zemeckis directs and Tom Hanks stars. Peter Pan & Wendy Peter Pan & Wendy, inspired by the Disney animated classic, has David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon) at the helm. A young girl rebels against “growing up” by going with her two brothers to a magical land ruled by an ageless boy obsessed with adventure who is locked in an ongoing battle with a pirate captain. The cast includes Jude Law as Captain Hook and Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) in the role of Tinker Bell. The film will premiere on Disney+. Disenchanted Disenchanted, a sequel to the hit film Enchanted, will stream exclusively on Disney+. Amy Adams returns as Giselle, who found her life flipped upside down when she fell out of her animated fantasy world and discovered herself stuck in real-life Manhattan. Sister Act 3 Sister Act 3, the third film in the beloved Sister Act series, is in development. Whoopi Goldberg is on board to star and produce, with Tyler Perry also signed on as a producer on the project. Sister Act 3 will premiere on Disney+.

Zootopia+ Zootopia+ heads back to the fast-paced mammal metropolis of Zootopia in a short-form series directed by Trent Correy and Josie Trinidad. Zootopia+ dives deeper into the lives of some of the feature film’s most intriguing characters, including Fru Fru, the newly married arctic shrew; Gazelle’s talented tiger dancers; and the sloth full of surprises, Flash. The short-form series debuts on Disney+ in Spring 2022. Iwájú Iwájú is an all-new original series coming to Disney+ in 2022. The series is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali and its founders Tolu Olowofoyeku, Ziki Nelson and Hamid Ibrahim. Iwájú, which roughly translates to “The Future” in the Yoruba language, is steeped in science fiction. Obviously the American remake of this show was an absolute dumpsterfire. Now, just as James Acaster and Josh Widdicombe would do, I am looking for the best hypothetical American cast that would accumulate viewers and garner a second season. I want your network (more like Dave or more like Channel four), I want your US taskmaster, assistant, and five contestants. Here is mine Network: NBC - CW is how taskmaster is currently coming to the states but I think that for it to be successful it has to be on a more popular network. Taskmaster: Conan O’ Brian -one of the best American comedians and hosts. He is incredibly smart and very quick witted. He can have that mean humor that Greg sometimes has and tends to already play a conceded character in most of his remotes. Also, important to mention that he is very tall, similar to Greg Assistant: Rose Matafeo. -I think it would we very cool to have a woman taskmasters assistant, especially since Conan is used to one already. Rose is a relatively small name for American audiences which I view as a positive and she has a great knowledge of how taskmaster works and would come up with some great tasks either on her own or with the help of her taskmaster-loving friends. Contestants: We don’t want to repeat the mistakes of the first American cast. The cast should be pretty much comedians or at least have a comedy background and should generally be good people who want to do well, be funny, and mesh with the taskmaster and his assistant. I tried making lists with smaller names but I think an American version would need some sort of star power in order to be given a second season. Issues between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon have reportedly reached an impasse and it looks as though Hogan may be gone from the company, just as his autobiography that WWE is releasing is scheduled to hit stores. There have been disagreements over the book, but the bigger issue is due to booking concerns. Hogan had initially agreed to come back a few weeks ago and work a program with Lesnar, leading to a match between them at Survivor Series. But just days before Hogan was scheduled to return, he backed out, apparently over not wanting to put Lesnar over again. Hogan's image has since been removed from the Smackdown opening credits. Vince is said to be handling this the same way he handled Austin's departure, which is essentially, "Fuck him. Keep moving forward, on to the next" and not really selling it. Hogan will continue to make a few previously scheduled media appearances to promote the book, which WWE booked for him, but otherwise, most of that promotional tour has been scrapped. The long-term plan was for Hogan to lose to Lesnar and that somehow leads to Vince vs. Hogan at Royal Rumble. That seems like it should be an obvious Wrestlemania match, but Hogan's contract expires before WM, so they weren't counting on that. Thus, Rumble. So that's kinda where things stand right now. Much like Austin, Hogan has decided to go home and WWE is now out another big star. Even the reasons are technically the same (refusal to job to Lesnar, although the circumstances are obviously different). Hogan's contract expires in February and he's interested in working some big money matches in Japan and doing a farewell tour in the U.S. that he would book and promote himself. AJPW and K-1 are doing a joint show next week and Goldberg will be there. They're interested in bringing in Hogan for it also and word is that Hogan's WWE contract might actually allow him to do it. There's talk that he has a unique contract that would allow him to work matches in Japan under certain circumstances, so WWE might not be able to stop him from doing the show next week. Hogan has been telling people this week that he's considering it, but he keeps wavering back and forth. And that's where things stand for now.
It was officially announced that Panda Energy has purchased a majority interest in Jerry Jarrett's NWA-TNA. This purchase has also settled the debate over who will be in charge creatively. Vince Russo had gone behind Jarrett's back and made a strong case to the Panda owners that he was the right man to lead the company. Jarrett himself had conceded that it looked like Panda was going to go with Russo. But this week, Bob Ryder and Jeremy Borash met with the Panda execs and made their case for keeping Jarrett in charge and it worked. As of this moment, Jerry Jarrett will remain in charge of creative. As a result, Russo no-showed this week's event and, for the time being at least, appears to be out of the company. TNA won't officially comment on Russo's status but did release a statement noting that Jarrett will remain "firmly in charge." However, much like WCW, the new owners can change whoever's in charge on a whim at any given moment. There's a lot of people who believe Russo will still end up in power if/when Jarrett fails to turn the ship around.
More details on the TNA sale: Dixie Carter, the daughter of Panda CEO Robert Carter, announced the ownership change to the employees and wrestlers at a big company-wide meeting. Jerry and Jeff Jarrett will remain minority owners but they essentially work for Panda now if we're being realistic. This deal is essentially just like WCW: a wrestling company owned by a large corporation with no wrestling experience. But WCW had the benefit of being owned by a television network. TNA is owned by an energy company that runs power plants (not the WCW kind). Under the new ownership, TNA made its first big move this week, purchasing commercials during WWE's Raw in more than 30 major markets. ECW and other minor promotions have tried this in the past and usually found it was a waste of money that didn't seem to yield results. This new deal keeps TNA alive for a little while longer, but they're still facing the same challenges: they're trying to get fans to pay money weekly to watch a second-rate product with a lot of unknowns and WWE cast-offs. And they still desperately need a TV deal because this sale doesn't change the fact that trying to run exclusively on weekly PPV isn't sustainable.
But make no mistake: this sale has saved the company. Remember back in late-Aug/early-Sept. when two episodes in a row were nothing but compilations of previous shows? That's because Jarrett had decided to fold the company. They were already done as far as he was concerned. But at that exact moment, the Panda negotiations started and they were positive enough that Jarrett decided to keep the company running a little bit longer to see if he could make the sale happen. And he did. But if the deal had fallen apart, Jarrett planned to close the company immediately. So this was the textbook definition of saved at the last second. Here's how bad things had gotten. TNA's original investor, HealthSouth, earmarked $1.6 million to help launch the company. But TNA blew through that money quickly and HealthSouth wouldn't invest more, and so Jarrett was keeping the company afloat with his own life savings for about 2 months. That's when he was about to throw in the towel and then Panda came along. TNA still doesn't have accurate numbers for what any of its PPVs have done, so it's hard to say what the true buyrates have been. But estimates are that they were losing $25-40k per show. The company had no television and a marketing budget of almost nothing, which made it impossible to attract new fans. So they were dying fast.
Long obituary for Edward "Yukon Moose" Cholak, who died at age 72 from a stroke. He was a big star during the 50s-80s. Big 400+ pound dude, back when that was rare in the business, and it made him a huge star in most of the territories he went to. He also wrestled Rikidozan in Japan in what is one of Rikidozan's most famous matches ever because they did an injury angle where Cholak injured his shoulder. It was the first injury angle Rikidozan had ever done and fans were horrified. It led to a couple of big rematches. Bunch of other stuff because Dave somehow knows everything about wrestlers I've never even heard of.
Former wrestler Brian Blair, of the Killer Bees, came just 4,000 or so votes shy of winning a nasty political race for county commissioner somewhere in Florida. Blair's campaign featured baseball star Wade Boggs (may he rest in peace) and Hulk Hogan in several of his campaign commercials. Blair pushed himself as a family man. His opponents pushed back, noting that Blair testified in the 1991 steroid trial about purchasing illegal steroids, among other things from his years in wrestling. His opponents also cited Blair's failed marriage to former WWF ring announcer Mike McGuirk and Blair allegedly assaulting fellow wrestler Doug Somers over his belief that Somers was having an affair with McGuirk. All this was used to essentially argue that Blair isn't the family values man he claims to be. Anyway, Blair lost, but just barely (I can't find any of these commercials).
"This has absolutely nothing to do with wrestling, but I feel the need to say a few words about my grandmother," Dave writes, before going on to give a brief, but sweet tribute to his grandmother who passed away just a few months before her 100th birthday. Awwww. Dave's mom is still alive too and in her 90s. Them Meltzers live a long time.
AJPW is expected to hold a Tokyo Dome show in January. The original plan had been for Goldberg to beat Genichiro Tenryu for the AJPW Triple Crown title, and then defend it at the Tokyo Dome against Keiji Muto. But Tenryu didn't want to do the Goldberg match (no interest in losing his title in a 5-minute squash) so they changed plans and had Muto beat Tenryu for the title. So now Muto is the champion and he may defend against Goldberg at the Dome instead (not quite what happens).
Dave saw the recent AJPW Budokan Hall show, which was essentially the end of the Giant Baba era of AJPW. Even though he died nearly 4 years ago, the company has remained synonymous with Baba. His picture still on the entrance curtain, representative of how he used to sit behind the curtain and watch all the matches at every show (so is this called the Baba Position in Japan?). But with Motoko Baba fully out of the company now, this was a sad show that symbolized the true end of the Baba era and the first step in AJPW becoming a new, more modern promotion. During the show, they had a list of the top 10 matches in AJPW history. And just so you know how deep the hatred for NOAH still runs, not a single match in the top 10 featured any of the former AJPW wrestlers who left to form NOAH. That's right. Not a single Misawa or Kobashi match made the list. In case you're curious, here's the top 10 AJPW matches ever, according to AJPW in 2002:

AJPW's annual tag tournament is coming up soon. Reportedly, Muto was trying to bring in Sting to be his partner, but Sting was already booked for the WWA tour in Europe. Man, Sting and Muta teaming up in a tournament would have been awesome to me. Those 2 are what got me into WCW as a kid.
The guy playing the fake Great Muta in NJPW blew out his knee and needs reconstructive surgery. He's expected to be out at least 6 months. And that was the end of that dumb ass experiment.
Dave reviews a recent NJPW show and has a couple of interesting notes. American Dragon wrestled in a 6-man match and looked good but lacked charisma. Some people there are making comparisons to Chris Benoit when he wrestled in NJPW. Dave ain't going that far just yet but the kid has real potential. Also, Dragon was reportedly asked to cut his hair but refused. And then there was another tag match with Chyna and it was by far the best match she's had in NJPW and probably the best wrestling match Dave has ever seen her have. She did some great mat wrestling with Tanahashi and Dave says she's been training with Sean Waltman (they're dating around this time of course). But she was shockingly good in this match.
IWA-Mid South held a 2-night Ted Petty Memorial tournament that featured some notable names, including Colt Cabana, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Ken Anderson, Ace Steele, Chris Hero, MDogg20, CM Punk, and BJ Whitmer, among others. The tournament was won by Whitmer who beat Punk in the finals (what a damn lineup in retrospect).
WWE's CFO and two of its top marketing execs are out of the company. The details are being kept hush, but Variety magazine reported that they had been fired, not that they quit. Agusut Liquori, the CFO, was considered the #3 person in the company, behind Vince and Linda McMahon. These decisions were made so suddenly and unexpectedly that WWE didn't yet have replacements lined up. So right now, a couple of other WWE execs are filling those roles temporarily. Gee, this sure sounds familiar. These are the exact same roles that George Barrios and Michelle Wilson held. And earlier this year, they were also fired without warning, so suddenly that WWE didn't even have replacements lined up. When business starts to fall, that job is not safe.
When talking about future opponents for Brock Lesnar as a babyface, Dave lists Big Show, Kurt Angle, and Eddie Guerrero as possibilities. They're already doing the Big Show match, which is how they're turning Lesnar babyface. They're holding off on Angle probably until Wrestlemania. And Eddie Guerrero, Dave says "I can't ever see that as a PPV match." Boy oh boy, those words taste aren't gonna taste good going down in a couple years.
Dave recaps all the appearances of WWE wrestlers on the TV show Blind Date. Chris Nowinski, Linda Miles, Maven, Nidia, and Jackie Gayda. You can find most of these on Youtube if you search. They're entertaining. Nidia in particular just cuts right to the chase.
Notes from Raw: Nathan Jones worked a dark match and even though his in-ring work sucked, he got over big with the crowd. They seem to have reeled back big time on the Katie Vick angle, with only one mention of it the entire show, and that was just a throwaway Goldust joke. Seems Vince finally caved on this one and it appears they're dropping the angle. Jeff Hardy is losing weight and looks more burned out than ever. Batista is now being called Dave Batista. Test got a haircut. And that's basically it.
Goldberg gave another interview and talked about WWE. First, he questioned whether Scott Steiner's body would hold up to their schedule, but wished him luck. As for the Katie Vick angle, he said stuff like that is basically part of why he's not with WWE and he wouldn't want to be associated with that.

Here we go, my list of 24 Baseball Books read in 2020, alone with a brief synopsis: Hall of Fame: Ball Four - Jim Bouton So, so good. I'm sure it doesn't have near the impact today that it did back in 1970 when released but it holds up pretty well and more than any other book I've read made me actually experience what it must have been like to be on an MLB team. And not just any team, but the legendary 1969 Seattle Pilots. Anyway, Bouton basically kept a diary on his season, got it published, and he doesn't pull any punches. Got himself blackballed from the game as a result. The Boys of Summer - Roger Kahn This was actually a re-read as I first read it as a teenager and it is responsible for a large chuck of my baseball fandom. The book has two parts really, the author describes his childhood as a Dodgers fan and then the beginning of his professional career as a sportswriter covering the Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodgers. Eight Men Out - Eliot Asinof Detailed account of the Chicago Black Sox. Book does a good job of retelling the scandal, giving you all sides. In a story with players who throw a World Series, professional gamblers and degenerates, Charles Comiskey still kinda comes off as the bad guy. Common trend of the year - baseball owners are not good people. A Day in the Bleachers - Arnold Hano I am not a Giants fan by any means but I loved this book. Only book of the 24 on this list that I couldn't get through my library so I actually bought it because I had heard good things. They were right, excellent read. Premise is that Hano, a sportswriter and Giants fan, happened to be sitting in the outfield bleachers at Polo Grounds for the great catch by Willie Mays in the 1954 World Series. Author recounts the whole experience of the day with a particular wit and charm. I finished this book in less than a day, partly because it is fairly short, but also because I was engrossed. BallPark: Baseball and the American City - Paul Goldberger This book is right in my wheelhouse - ballparks, architecture, city planning, etc. Also, the Goldberger (correctly) abhors the 1970s trend of the big concrete donut multi-purpose stadiums that all looked alike so he scored big points with me. You really see how influential Camden Yards was and how the White Sox had really unfortunate timing (and a lack of imagination) when they replaced the Comiskey Park. The Glory of Their Times - Lawrence S Ritter Upon the death of Ty Cobb in 1961, the author worried that baseball history was being lost and started contacting old ball players and traveling the country to get oral histories from them. More or less only players from the Dead Ball era, which is fine except there is nothing from Negro Leagues or any of its precursors so it limits the voices that we do hear. The audiobook I got from the library was the actual taped conversations with the old timers and the author. I recommend this format. Great to hear the old stories of the guys who lived them in their own voices. A little more of the "players today aren't tough, wah wah" than I would like but overall really good stuff. Common theme - Walter Johnson was universally admired as a player and a person. Ty Cobb universally admired as a player and despised as a person. Dynastic, Bombastic, Fantastic: Reggie, Rollie, Catfish, and Charlie Finley’s Swingin’ A’s - Jason Turbow I got this book because the early 70s A's won 3 World Series in a row, yet I felt like I had never heard much about them. And that ignorance probably increased my enjoyment of this book as all the crazy shit with this team was totally new and incredible to me. Great cast of charactors, and just a totally different era in the game compared to today. A's Owner Charles Finley probably the biggest d-bag of any person in any of these books. The Soul of Baseball: A Roadtrip through Buck O'Neil's America - Joe Posnanski The author drives around with Buck O'Neil as he promotes the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City and advocates for great Negro League players to be recognized in the Hall of Fame. Anyone who watched Ken Burns' Baseball knows Buck O'Neil is a national treasure and this book helps who get to know him a little more. And America as well, perhaps. The Hall of Very Good Moneyball - Michael Lewis Okay, we all know about Moneyball. The movie did an incredible job at making a film out of this book. That said, the book is more informative and engaging still, at least to me. Shoeless Joe - W.P Kinsella You've probably heard of the movie made out of this book - Field of Dreams. I don't usually go for baseball fiction books but this one is pretty good. Fun Fact: the Terrance Mann character (James Earl Jones) is actually J.D Salinger in the book. And he was pissed to be depicted in a work of fiction and the movie had to change that to avoid a lawsuit. Neat stuff. Bang the Drum Slowly - Mark Harris Another baseball fiction book that I liked so I keep breaking my own rule I guess. A friendship between a cerebral pitcher and kind of a dimwitted catcher. The catcher is dying. Brian's Song for baseball, maybe? I've never actually seen Brian's Song. This book was made into a movie with Robert DeNiro as the catcher, but I've never actually seen it either. The Echoing Green - Joshua Prager Investigative work uncovering the cheating scandal of the 1951 NY Giants. Old school sign stealing with binoculars and a wire buzzer. This was the year that the Giants came from way back to tie the Brooklyn Dodgers for the pennant and Bobby Thompson hit the Shot Heard Round the World in the playoff. All tainted though! Cause the Giants were cheatin'. Game Six - Mark Frost Highlights the 1975 World Series between the Big Red Machine and the Boston Red Sox, particularly... Game Six. Often regarded as the greatest baseball game ever played. And it certainly was dramatic. That's the one that ends with the Fisk-waving-it-fair home run. Clemente - David Maraniss Another book where I said to myself, I don't know enough about this subject, and my library had a book about that subject so I checked it out and I'm glad I did. Hall of Pretty Good Heart of the Game - S.L. Price A first base coach in a minor league game is hit by a batted ball and dies. Price does a bio of the coach, the hitter and minor league baseball as a whole. Well done book. Bottom of the 33rd - Dan Berry Another book on the minor leagues, this one detailing a 33 inning game played about 40 years ago. Berry does a good job of making an interesting story out of a long, bleak game. Mickey and Willie - Allen Barra Dual biography of the parallel careers of the two great centerfielders. Probably better biographies out there of each man, but if you would rather read one book than two, here ya go. The Kid - Ben Bradlee Biography of Ted Williams. Is there a dual biography of Williams and Joe DiMaggio? My library didn't have one and I didn't look further. This is a pretty good bio of Ted though. His son, barf. Replacement Level Books The Big Fella - Jane Leavy The Matheny Manifesto - Mike Matheny Just Show Up - Cal Ripken Jr Wherever I Wind Up - R.A. Dickey More Than A Season - Dayton Moore Hall of Shame Astroball - Ben Reiter ------ Edit - The R.A. Dickey book is actually pretty good. I don't go for the Christian stuff but he's not preachy about it at all and pretty honest about his own faults. Dude had some crazy bad stuff happen to him growing up too. Anyway, I assumed the book covered his Cy Young award winning season but it was actually written and published before that happened. So, when I finished the book, I was disappointed to not read about that. Pretty crazy that R.A. Dickey got a book deal before that season, if you think about it.

It’s silly and occasionally a little slow, and it could use the kind of in-person audience that it won’t get in these pandemic days. But if you felt any affection for “Bill & Ted” in the past, you’ll feel it again here, because the movie rides on the same kind of goofy charm as its predecessors. Winter and Reeves, meanwhile, manage to make the years and the mileage show without losing that essential Billishness or Tediosity; maybe they weren’t born to play these guys, but it’s still a lot of fun when they do.
“Face the Music” is a giant party of a movie, made all the more gratifying by the way it sits at odds with the divisive moment that greets its release. Things may be dire (in this movie and IRL) but Bill and Ted’s unbridled enthusiasm as their stumbles through daunting circumstances turn gleeful ignorance into a form of escapism. Their biggest takeaway (“Maybe we should always not know what we’re doing!”) doesn’t reach the same quotable sagacity of “Be excellent to each other,” but it’s on the same continuum. A little stupid idealism can go a long way, and “Face the Music” makes the case that morons can come together to set the world right. Talk about movie magic.
Bill & Ted Face the Music is a pleasant escape for the quarantine-stricken, a sweet and entertaining romp that defies expectations by largely recapturing what worked about the series so many years later. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter rekindle their past chemistry almost instantly, even if their successors, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving, aren’t always quite as well-served by (or as comfortable with) the daft material. Still, the whole ensemble cast is entertaining and the movie itself proves a good-natured distraction from our own grim time.
The film is weightless and super-goofy — a blissed-out air balloon of nostalgia. It zips right along, it makes you smile and chortle, it’s a surprisingly sweet-spirited love story, and it’s a better tribute to the one-world utopian power of classic rock than “Yesterday” was. On a scale of one to 10, I wouldn’t say that “Face the Music” goes to 11, but it’s a most excellent sequel.
While “Face the Music” is best when you don’t think about it too hard, it's also a movie that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t bother to have an insincere moment. “Be excellent to each other” is not a throwaway saying, but a thoughtful mantra wired into the DNA of the movie and its stars. Each have done their own things in Hollywood (Winter is an ace documentary director, Reeves is an icon driving the Keanussance), and their Bill and Ted is a duo that feels as essential now as they ever did.
I was worried that Bill & Ted may not have the staying power, especially when we’ve seen comedy sequels like Zoolander 2 and Bad Santa 2 falter so badly after decades away from their beloved originals. The secret of the Bill & Ted movies is that they work out from simple characters, but then make their circumstances different enough so that it doesn’t feel like a retread. There are moments when the pacing gets a bit slow and Bill and Ted fighting with their future selves get a little redundant. But there’s no mistaking Face the Music for the previous two movies, especially as it reaches its lovely crescendo about the kind of future we not only leave to our children, but what those children give to us in return. Party on, dudes.
Director Dean Parisot (Red 2, Galaxy Quest) manages to more or less corral this clown car for the next 90 minutes, though even that runtime can feel like a stretch. Mostly, the joy comes from watching Reeves and Winter on screen, two holy fools just doing their best to bring light and love and non-heinous riffs — and remind the bleary-eyed citizens of 2020, perhaps, of a simpler, sweeter world gone by.
The conclusion of “Bill & Ted Face the Music” is pure corn, and by that point, they’ve earned it. It’s a film that’s somehow both offhand and meticulous, shaggy yet crisp, and the apparent joy of its creation is infectious. I laughed through a lot of it, and smiled through the rest. What a treat this movie is.
It’s harder than ever to believe in the idyllic land of harmony foretold in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. 2020 is the most non-non-heinous year of my lifetime. Perhaps that’s why Bill & Ted Face the Music’s optimism in the face of the apocalypse feels so welcome. It suggests that even if a song could never fix the universe, maintaining hope can be a world-changing act. Bill & Ted might be about life’s disappointments, but it is not one of them.
A sequel of rare sincerity, Bill & Ted Face the Music avoids feeling like a craven reviving of a hollowed-out IP or a cynical reboot, mostly because its ambition is the stuff of affection—for what the filmmakers are doing, made with sympathy for their audience and a genuine desire to explore these characters in a new context. Maybe that’s the despair talking. Or maybe it’s just the relief of for once confronting the past and finding that it’s aged considerably well.

Sorkin has made a movie that's gripping, illuminating and trenchant, as erudite as his best work and always grounded first and foremost in story and character. It's as much about the constitutional American right to protest as it is about justice, which makes it incredibly relevant to where we are today, and to what's at stake in the coming election. The final note of defiance here offers a glimmer of hope for which many of us are starved right now. I'll take it.
Made by Paramount and tossed to Netflix in the pandemic uncertainty of 2020, “Chicago 7” isn’t exactly a groundbreaking vision, but it’s certainly a passion project of the “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” variety. It could have been made a few years after the Chicago 7 faced their fate and fit its moment, but registers as particularly robust now: Sorkin proves that courtrooms have always been at the mercy of a flawed process, yet subject to moral scrutiny at every turn. A look back at rabble-rousers from another era won’t change the world, but “Chicago 7” is a solid tribute to a few men who realized they could, even when the system they fought for came up short.
The trial, as Sorkin presents it, is really about the soul of America — the ability to protest, to question the most fundamental actions of the government. The overlap between the 1968 Chicago protests and the Black Lives Matter protests that have taken place this year is all too obvious. Yet the true parallel, I think, is that “The Trial of the Chicago 7” is really about what it looks like when a society starts to treat people speaking freely as if they were doing something dangerous. The movie reminds you, quite stirringly, that the Chicago 7 weren’t attacking America. They were upholding it.
And leave it to Sorkin — whose only other film as director, “Molly’s Game,” felt prescient in its portrayal of predatory men in Hollywood and beyond — to catch the mood of 2020 with a film he began working on many years beforehand. At a time of so much focus on police brutality, and a time when protest is being demonized as the election approaches, this story set 50 years ago feels oddly, frighteningly vital.
While many will draw parallels between scenes involving civil unrest to the events of 2020, the philosophical differences between Hayden and Abbie — cultural versus electoral revolution, respectively — ring closely to the debates raging within progressive politics today, and actually prove more interesting. But how much viewers engage with the “Trial of the Chicago 7” will have more to do with its naturally captivating story, and the comedic dialogue, than anything Sorkin as a director provides. But through a punch-the-air final act, one that’s the definition of defiance, Sorkin’s melodrama reassures us of the power of sticking to one’s beliefs.
The script saves some of its most fiery material for them, the kind of thunderbolt Sorkin-isms that land with a satisfying crack. Though it allows them to inhabit quieter moments, too, and the movie is at its best when it roots itself in the real consequences of the case — not only for the men involved, but for a nation increasingly unable to bridge its most painful divides. In that, Chicago 7 frames the past not just as entertaining prologue but a living document; one we ignore at our own peril.
The question of how we approach protest is an important one because it needs to be ingrained into our daily lives. I think even Sorkin would agree that our institutions have become infected with bad actors who seek to turn those institutions against the people they were meant to protect. “Protests are good” is a fine sentiment, but the culture is already there, and while Chicago 7 acknowledges that these protests will have internal conflict and face external violence, there needs to be more recognition that something has truly rotted America. Sorkin’s faith in institutions has clearly chipped away, but The Trial of the Chicago 7 shows he’s uncertain about what should go in its place.
Certain events are rearranged from the factual timelines, and yes, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” exercises poetic license. This is not a documentary; it’s a dramatization of events that resonates with great power while containing essential truths, and it’s one of the best movies of the year.
For a time, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct The Trial Of The Chicago 7, and his absence is felt in the televisual staging: For all the sentimental uplift of this film’s closing minutes, Sorkin lacks the master’s skill — flaunted in Lincoln and The Post — at enlivening gabby civics lessons. The film could have used some of Spielberg’s craft and twinkly open-hearted conviction... or, perhaps conversely, more of Hoffman’s radical, down-with-The-Man sensibility. Ultimately, Sorkin seems less interested in the actual politics of any of his seven than in the way their flipped bird to the establishment facilitates his own taste for zingers, clever comebacks, and grandstanding. Parallels to the present aside, Trial Of The Chicago 7 is ultimately more timeless than timely in its flaws and conventions. Which is to say that some things sadly never go out of fashion, like perversions of justice and eleventh hour surprise witnesses in legal dramas.
Language is Sorkin’s power, and it’s easy to see what drew him to this project: language is what gives the characters here their power as well. And while there are moments that sound like Sorkin is preaching to the choir, there’s a great emphasis on the words the characters use, and how those words either get them in trouble, or ultimately give them strength. From a movie-making perspective, The Trial of the Chicago 7 is sturdy but not particularly revelatory. But as a delivery system for great performers rattling off great dialogue, it’s almost unbeatable.
While character development is a bit of an issue with so many personalities rioting, arguing and bantering, it doesn’t impede the thought-provoking nature of “Chicago 7” or parallels that Sorkin draws between the ‘60s and now – and without a bunch of narrative gymnastics. The filmmaker crafts an entertaining, immersive and ultimately optimistic spectacle that never forgets, especially at its ending, that humanity should always trump the system.
Unfortunately, the film has relatively little of that kind of punchiness. As a director, Sorkin hasn’t yet grasped how to meld personal drama and historical sweep into a cohesive whole. Although the strong cast helps the film through some of its weaker segments, Sorkin’s attempt to bring a Spielbergian fluidity to the flashbacks to convention riot chaos often fall flat. But while The Trial of the Chicago 7 ends on something of a movie-of-the-week note, given the timing of its release as a current Department of Justice gins up spurious charges against political enemies, it nevertheless carries a certain past-is-prologue immediacy.
“The Trial of the Chicago 7” offers an absorbing account, in some ways alarming and in some ways reassuring, of an earlier moment of polarization and violent conflict. It isn’t just like now, but the analogies are enough to get you thinking about what happens in a democracy when state power confronts popular dissent. A loud, chaotic mess. A tragedy and a farce. And that’s if we’re lucky.
